Rotobrush Register & Grille Cleaning: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you own a Rotobrush system and the register and grille cleaning attachment has stopped performing the way it should, we can help. Kestrel Air Duct Dallas stocks Rotobrush-compatible register and grille cleaning parts, and most replacements run between $85 and $225 installed depending on your model and what failed. The job typically takes under an hour on-site, and we’ll give you the written price before we turn a single screw.
The way owners usually discover this part has failed is subtle at first. The brush head doesn’t sit flush against the register face anymore, or it leaves a ring of dust around the edges it used to pull clean. Sometimes the bristles have flattened on one side after a few hundred passes across painted steel grilles. By the time it’s noticeable, you’ve been running a less effective pass for weeks.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
Rotobrush has shipped a few different register and grille cleaning configurations over the years, and they are not all interchangeable. The original brush-and-collar design from the aiR+ and early R500 series uses a friction-fit collar that snaps onto the cleaning wand. Later models, including the R2S and the current aiR+ PRO line, use a threaded collar with a wider bristle face built for high-velocity passes on painted and powder-coated grilles. If you try to run an older brush on a newer wand without the right adapter, it will wobble and throw dust instead of capturing it.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha worth knowing: the collar diameter matters more than the bristle width. Rotobrush wands across the last decade measure either 1.25 inches or 1.5 inches at the attachment point, and mixing these up is the single most common reason a replacement part “doesn’t fit” when an owner orders online. OEM Rotobrush parts come with the exact factory spec, but a quality aftermarket equivalent from a supplier who actually measures the collar will outperform a cheap universal “fits most” head that grinds against the wand. We stock both OEM and vetted aftermarket heads on the truck, and we’ll show you the fit before anything is rung up.

Signs Your Rotobrush Register & Grille Cleaning Is Failing
- The brush leaves a crescent of dust at the top edge of the register. This usually means the collar has worn enough that the head tilts slightly on the wand, so the bristles only contact three-quarters of the grille face.
- You hear a chattering or skipping sound during the pass. Flattened bristles lose their flick, so instead of snapping dust off the register, they drag across it. The sound is the brush head jumping against raised grille louvers.
- The brush won’t stay seated on the wand. The friction collar or threads have stretched from repeated heating and cooling in Texas attics and garages. Heat cycling is hard on plastics, and Dallas summers accelerate it.
- Cleaning takes twice as long to get the same result. When bristles are worn past their effective length, the operator compensates by going slower and pressing harder, which just wears the collar faster.
- You see black or gray streaks on light-colored registers. This is brush material transferring onto the surface, not dirt being removed. Once the nylon bristles start degrading, they shed and smear.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Rotobrush register and grille cleaning heads in the Dallas market, you’re looking at $85 to $225 installed. On the low end, a simple brush-head swap with a vetted aftermarket part runs about $85. On the high end, a full OEM assembly with a new collar, brush face, and wand adapter for a late-model aiR+ PRO lands around $225. The range comes down to three things: whether you need OEM or are comfortable with an aftermarket equivalent, whether the collar adapter needs replacing along with the brush, and whether we’re doing any companion work on the same visit.
Every quote includes the part, the labor to install and test it, and a function check on a register in your home so you can see the finished result before we leave. The work falls under the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the replacement fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Clean ducts, clear price, nothing hidden in either one.
DIY or Call Us?
This is one of the safer parts of a Rotobrush system to work on, and if you’re mechanically comfortable, you can absolutely order a replacement head and swap it yourself. The thing that goes wrong for DIY owners isn’t the install, it’s the fit. We’ve seen perfectly good brush heads get cross-threaded onto the wrong wand diameter, and once those nylon threads are stripped, that $40 “deal” becomes a $180 call to us anyway.
If you want the part matched to your model and installed with a fit-check before you pay, call us at (361) 314-5449. Dale Whitmore has been working on Rotobrush equipment since the early aiR+ days, and he’ll tell you straight whether you need a $20 adapter or a full head replacement. That honesty is the whole point of the Kingswell Way: say the price, show up when we said, leave it cleaner, put the guarantee in writing.
Frequently Asked Questions
In regular residential use across Dallas, a Rotobrush register and grille cleaning head typically lasts two to four years before the bristles lose their effective bite. Homes with a high register count or a lot of painted metal grilles tend to land on the shorter end, and Texas attic heat shortens the life of the plastic collar regardless of how much you use it. Call (361) 314-5449 if yours is wearing faster than that, because a bad wand fit is often the real culprit.
Sometimes. If the bristles are simply matted or flattened, a careful cleaning and a re-fluff with warm water can buy you a few more months. But once the collar is cracked, the threads are stripped, or the bristles have worn down to the backing plate, repair isn’t a real option and a replacement head is the honest answer. We’ll tell you which situation you have before we sell you anything.
A straightforward register and grille cleaning head replacement takes under an hour, including the fit-check and a test pass on one of your registers so you can see the result with your own eyes. If we’re also doing work on your air ducts or dryer vent while we’re there, the visit naturally runs longer.
We carry Rotobrush-compatible register and grille cleaning heads on the truck, along with the collars and adapters that match the most common wand sizes. We also work on systems built around Lennox, Trane, and Carrier components, so if you’ve got a mixed setup, we can usually address it in one visit. Call us and tell us your Rotobrush model before we head out, and we’ll bring exactly what fits.
